1961 Fender Stratocaster

1961 Fender Stratocaster

SOLD

This is a nice light and resonant pre CBS slab board Fender Stratocaster with an old body refinish. The paint is thin and in the flesh you can see that the guitar shows natural light wear that gives an authentic feel. The neck has some very fine overspray on the back which has largely worn away and has a natural worn in feel, it also extends over the original decal which has crazed slightly although it is still raised to the touch. The single line Kluson tuners are original to the guitar and work well with no others fitted in the past. Body pick up routings have been deepened slightly as either part of the refinish process or past pickup experiments…i suspect the later but the correct factory dowels are present and easily located through the thin finish. The original green nitrate guard has a small extra hole near the switch screw which remains unfilled and goes unnoticed and has the usual shrinkage crack by the neck adjustment screw. All 3 pots remain and date to the 34th week of 1961. The 3 way switch is 1970’s. The shielding plate is there as is the original tone capacitor. The 3 knobs are old 1970’s replacements, Bridge, saddles, screws , string tree, neck plate and jack cup are all correct. Plastic switch tip looks to be original Neck and middle pickup are original windings but the bridge looks to have been rewound in the 1970’s judging by the colour of the wire. It has been re fretted with medium wire and the nut has been changed. The slab board is in very good condition with no wear to the fingerboard or clay dots and the stub of the neck is dated 10.61 which is in keeping with the serial # and pot dates. pickups read Neck 5.8K middle 5.9K bridge 5.6 K ohms. weight is 7.3 lbs. The tremolo arm is a correct Fender re issue replacement. Tremolo back plate is missing. The guitar comes in a period correct Selmer faux croc skin case.
