1953 Gretsch 6130 Knotty Pine Roundup

Here we have a super rare first batch #35 from the 121 batch if the numbers run sequentially which they probably don’t as this one has the fixed Melita bridge that only the very first guitars received. Why they did away with that feature beats me as its a much better arrangement than the floating type on a base that all other Gretsch guitars received. The guitar is all original save the pick guard which gassed out and crumbled years ago but the replacement is a superb hand made replacement. Of course western features to the max which set this model apart from the rest of the Gretsch lineup. The 2 Dynasonic pickups a strong sounding, probably the best i have heard in a Gretsch guitar. The finish has survived well with just the usual age related checking for a 73 year old guitar. The pictures really do tell the story and in all the years doing this i have not seen another like this. It comes with its tweed case which is certainly showing its age and looks like the sides of the tweed were painted black at some point. It also comes with its original Gretsch western strap and a period Gretsch Chet Atkins string box which is nice to see
