The Gretsch 6119 debuted in 1958 as a stripped down 6120 with less embellishments and most notably one Filtertron pickup at the bridge. In 1961 the model completely changes to what we see here with now a sealed 2″ deep chambered body, although some of the very first had a 2″ 1/4 deep body and are extremely rare. Also now the body has simulated painted F holes with a white border being added in late 1962. Another new feature for the model was Gretsch’s new Hi-Lo pickups which deliver that unmistakable 1960’s chime popularised by many of the British invasion beat groups most notably George Harrison, Gerry Marsden and countless others. Another feature only found in 1961 is the Patent # Gretsch V Bigsby. This one is superb condition and plays extremely well due to re fret with slightly larger wire than the original and a new nut, the neck angle is spot on with room at the bridge to lower if desired. The plastics are also in good shape with just one crack through a screw hole of the bridge pick up surround. This guitar also benefits from zero binding issues with no signs of any future problems, an issue that plagues many of the 1960’s Gretsch models. It weighs just 7 lbs 1oz and comes in its Gretsch silver case. If your a collector of first year production guitars this one ticks all the boxes.
