1977 Fender Telecaster

On Hold

Proof that great things could happen in the Fender CBS era is this awesome Fender Telecaster in natural. Featuring a 2 piece ash body ( nearly centre seam!) and weighing in at 7 lbs 9 oz or 3.59 kg which in itself is no mean feat for the era. The electronics are untouched and the pickups measure 6.8 k neck and 6.1 k ohms bridge. Pots date the guitar to the 35th week of 1977. Needless to say it has the classic “Tele” sound suitable for every musical genre. Its had a refret in the past, and the medium wire is in perfect shape and hence the guitar plays faultlessly. The finish has aged to a lovely butter scotch hue and now nails the early “Black Guard” look. Unlike the Stratocaster the telecaster escaped many of the negative 1970’s CBS improvements that slowly eroded the Fender range through the 1970’s. With that in mind the maple neck profile is not that far off in profile to my own 54 with a comfortable C with a hint of V below the first 5 frets. The overall finish condition is in line for a guitar with normal use for its age.  All in all a very nice guitar that comes in a slightly later Fender ABS case which has held a strat in the past. These CBS guitars are now beginning to catch up in the market and this represents one of the best telecasters from the era i have seen.
