1972 Fender Mustang Bass Competition Red
Here’s a great clean example of what must be my favourite of all the Fender Bass range. The competition red is actually candy apple red with white now aged to cream “go faster stripes” Of course its a short scale instrument with a 30″ scale length and a 41mm nut making it a comfortable guitar to play. It weighs 8 lbs 5 oz and the pickup measures 9.7 k ohms and delivers the punch that these are famous for. The original frets do show some wear but it plays well up and down the neck and is currently strung with flat wound strings. The original finish is in superb condition for its age with just a scrape through the lacquer on the reverse side of the neck below the first fret worthy of a mention. The electronics are original with no broken solder and the pots date to 43rd week of 1972. The neck has never been off so i wont be taking it off. The truss rod is free in both directions and hasn’t been over wound. The bass still retains its mutes which are often missing and thumb rest which is nice. The bass’s compact size have made them a popular choice for many artists over the years with Bill Wyman and Tina Weymouth immediately springing to mind. It comes in an older Selmer case that fits well.
