1924 Martin 00028

Its not everyday a 99 year old Martin 00028 walks into the shop so we are excited to welcome this one into the fold. Like most vintage acoustics its seen some work over the years but incredibly i can’t find a single crack or structural repair which is very unusual for an acoustic instrument of this age, However it has been completely refinished in the past and i can detect a previous neck reset. Clearly the bridge has been changed to a modern belly type and a faux tortoise shell pick guard added. The original tuning pegs survive along with the bar frets and nut which are both in very good condition. The neck has a wonderful shallow V profile with a sharp flat thin Ebony board with snow flake inlays. The nut width is 48mm or 1″ 7/8 and the scale length 25″ The herringbone inlays are in perfect shape along with the binding. The string action maybe considered high by some at the 12th but when you consider that this guitar would have been designed and used with gut strings you can see that its perfectly normal. We have strung it with 10 gauge phosphor bronze strings and as such the guitar plays very comfortably with a loud balanced tone with a dry percussive bass and clear rounded treble. Overall the guitar is lightly constructed as you would expect and ready for its next owner. It comes protected in a Hiscox ABS case.
