1967 Fender Stratocaster Hold

Its hard to believe today that by 1967 Fender had considered the mighty Stratocaster old in the tooth, and with sales at a low point a decision to axe it from the catalogue was to be made. Then Jimi turned up! This makes a 1967/8 Stratocaster quite a hard thing to find, and to find one as exemplary as this one an even harder task. The serial number on this one points to late 66 early 67 and i would wager it was mostly constructed in 1966 and finished sold early 1967.  It weighs in at a hair over 8 lbs with a neck pickup reading 5.7K ohms middle 5.75k ohms and bridge 5.8k ohms. The guitar is fitted with one grey bottom (neck dated January 1967) pickup and 2 black bottom pickups. Apart from some light checking to the back of the instrument the guitar is in incredible condition which just pops when you lift the lid of the case. The back of the neck appears to be as it left the factory and the headstock face along with transitional logo matches. The frets are unmarked. Neck date is October 1966 and the 3 pots are week 18 of 1966.The guitar comes with all its original tags and case candy plus its a first for me to have an original 1960’s Fender polish tin included. The tremolo arm and bridge cover are also original and included. The black tolex Fender logo case is also original to the guitar. Sound wise its different to a 1962 slab board, perhaps not so deep and plumby but by no means any less spectacular. It has the voice of the later 1960’s and has a bridge pickup that is probably the finest i have heard on any strat, including that slab board. If you are looking for an investment grade guitar i think this could quite possibly be it.
