1964 Gibson Firebird V

Here we have a fantastic players grade Firebird V thats been refinished in Gibson’s ever popular custom colour Pelham Blue. I can of course detect a headstock repair which probably prompted the paint job plus the guitar has a few hardware changes helping keep it firmly in player grade territory. It looks like the tuners are identical replacements along with the vibrola and bridge. The knobs and pots are original to the guitar which from the one i can partially read dates to early 1965 making this among the last of the reverse birds before the non reverse takes over that year. The pickups are patent stamped so from the 1972 medallion run of guitars but the the bridge currently has a Monty’s FB pickup installed with the patent in the case. The guard also looks to be a replacement as these often shrink and crack. I can also see the guitar was once stop tailed with the studs plugged with nickel caps and largely hidden under the vibrola. The guitar weighs 8 lbs 8 oz and amazingly looks to be on its original frets which are in good condition with the binding nibs in place, the board is also in fine shape and the original celluloid inlays look fantastic. Its a good paint restoration that has naturally aged to make it look very convincing. The pictures tell the story and what a great way to get a vintage wood firebird for substantially less than a Gibson Custom shop or Murph lab. If you are Firebird fan its a no brainer! The guitars comes in a recent Gibson firebird case.
