1954 Gretsch 6196 Cadillac Green Country Club

Here we have a most beautiful debut year 1954 Gretsch 6196 Cadillac Green Country Club from the #132xx batch. It has all the early features such as a 3 1/4 ” body depth that reduces to 2 3/4″ in 1955, “Waffle” back Kluson tuners, “Bullet” truss rod cover and the part anodised part gold plate “G” tailpiece with smooth plain gold control knobs. The guitar has an accurate reproduction tortoise shell guard as the original celluloid has long decomposed as they all do. The guitar has its gold Melita bridge which in itself is a thing of beauty and the two Dynasonic pickups are strong and clear in output. The guitar has a great neck angle and i can see no evidence of any past reset nor any needed. Until relatively recently this was a cherished one owner guitar that was clearly played mostly in the seated position with most of the age related play wear to the back of the neck. The frets and fingerboard are also in fine condition and the guitar is ready to give its next 66 years service. Even the case tweed is nice and crisp and matches the guitar for preservation. The Country Club shares the same basic construction foot print as Gretsch’s top of the line White Falcon and as such have a unique tone given by their maple hollow bodied 17″ wide body and Dearmond set up. A great guitar for the player or collector looking for that great 1950’s Gretsch sound! With the coolest of the coolest colour.
