1961 Gretsch 6120 Walnut

Here we have a great players grade vintage Gretsch 6120 thats been expertly refinished in a walnut colour usually seen on Gretsch Country Gents. This is the very guitar as used by South African guitarist Jimmy Davidson and his 12 inch album is included in the sale. The refinish work must be pre 1980’s and you would be excused in thinking it was a factory job. The neck has been finished clear and the tuners upgraded to Kluson “waffle backs” The guitar looks to have taken a knock to its back which probably prompted the refinish work, and you can see a veneer section approx 100mm x 10mm let into the back of the guitar, this does not go all the way through but merely covers an impact mark. However it has taken the stain differently so stands out as shown in the pictures. The bridge has been pinned to the top via the adjustment posts and the zero fret has been removed with a bone nut in its place. All else is original including 2 Patent # Filtertron pick ups which sound incredible. The guitar plays very well on what looks to bits original frets and the ebony board is in extremely good condition. Comes with its original case, if your looking for vintage Gretsch tone for basically new build money…here it is!
