1944 Gibson “Banner” Southern Jumbo

Here we have a sublime example of the legendary wartime 1942 through to mid 1945 “Only a Gibson is Good Enough” Banner headstock Southern Jumbo.

It features a 4 piece Adirondack top, mahogany back and sides, 5 piece maple neck with rosewood fingerboard with a square popular neck block.

Apart from the strings and pins the guitar is completely original and repair/crack free. The neck has never been off.

The nut width is 43mm and the scale length is 24 3/4″ ish

Lavish 7 ply BWB binding to the front and 5 ply to the back with beautiful Mother Of Pearl trapezoidal inlays

Unlike many wartime instruments the guitar has a functioning truss rod and the neck is a comfortable uniform full C profile

The original wartime tuners work well and hold tune. The original frets are dent free and the guitar plays as good as the day it left Kalamazoo in 1944

It really is an exceptional instrument that improves as you play leaving you in no doubt within 30 minutes that somehow you must find a way to own it!

Its overall condition is very good with the usual bumps and scrapes a 77 year old will pick up over the years, the worst being what looks to be case bites north of the sound hole which do not penetrate the finish. The sunburst is rich and deep in colour with typical crazing to the lacquer.

A later case offers good protection
